LES TROIS FEMMES

Alliance Française de Bombay, in collaboration with G5A Warehouse, celebrated International Women’s Day with a special concert – Les 3! A musical performance dedicated to the presence and recognition of unjustly forgotten French Female composers throughout history performed by three eminent French female artists, Kim Barbier, Isuet Chaut, & Marie-Radauer Plank.

Les Trois Artistes

The event was all about celebrating women in every form of music. The three artistes Marie-Radauer Plank on the violin, Isuet Chaut on the Cello, and Kim Barbier on the Steinway Grand Piano. Marie- Radauer Plank started playing the violin at the age of three and has won several international accolades. Isuet was introduced to the world of music by her teacher, cellist Alain Meuneir at age ten; who then performed, taught, and became passionate about chamber music. Kim stands out as a versatile artist who feels equally comfortable in piano concertos and chamber music performing with various orchestras around the world.

Les Trois Compositrices

These three artists performed pieces composed by three incredible French artists that got lost in history. Louise Farrenc (1804-1875) began training with an Italian pianist and composer, Muzio Clementi. She started her career as a piano teacher while obtaining a class at the Conservatoire National de Paris. Mel Bonis (1858-1937) was one of the female musical figures of the “enchanted parenthesis” period of the 19th century. Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983) was a noted French composer who was the only female member of the famed musical group ‘Les Six’.

Les Trois Événement

Kim Barbier was effusive in her love for Steinway “You come to a Steinway, you know it is going to be high-quality. There is nothing that goes wrong when it comes to a Steinway! And my biggest musical influence has been the first Steinway Artist, Arthur Rubenstein!”

When asked about performing in India for International Women’s Day, the three artists were thrilled. “This is our first time in India. We have had so much fun travelling together, rehearsing, and meeting new people; it has been an amazing experience.”

The concert was very well received and a tremendous success; the audience thoroughly enjoyed and celebrated women in the best possible way with Les Trois!
