THE HISTORY, THE COLLECTION, THE PARTS OF STEINWAY & SONS
A PRESENTATION BY MANECK BILLIMORIA AT NCPA

A presentation on the History, Collection, and Parts of Steinway & Sons was organised by NCPA, at the NCPA Stuart-Liff Collection Library with an invite-only audience. The host and presenter of the event was the Assistant Manager of SOI and the NCPA Cultural Committee. The event was host to an interested and inquisitive audience, ready to hear about the makings of the best piano.

The event started with Maneck introducing Steinway & Sons and its History. A presentation was showcased and Maneck described the Kitchen Piano and how Steinweg moved to America and turned to Steinway & Sons, which we know today. The Steinway pianos grew in popularity because of the quality and time it took to make one piano (a year).

He then shifted to the different collections of Steinway Pianos, such as the beautiful Special Collections or the Limited Editions. Even art cases such as the Alma Tadema, Pictures at an Exhibition, Dale Chihuly and many more amazed us. The audience was mesmerised by this wonderful display of customised and art case pianos by Steinway & Sons. Some of them are showcased below.

Lastly, Maneck explained how each part of a Steinway is created with only the highest quality of raw materials. Each Steinway is created with over 12,000 parts, most of which are patented. He described every action, like the hammer, strings, soundboards, etc of the Steinway that make the Steinway a Steinway.

The session ended with a Q&A with the audience, who asked Maneck questions about parts of the Steinway, how the tuning stays longer in different weather conditions and how a Steinway ensures that you have the best experience possible, just as Henry Steinway wanted to create and is relevant even today! The audience was happy and satisfied with the information about Steinway pianos they had received from Maneck in such an insightful session.
